Driving Distances

Use this page to calculate driving, cycling or walking distances between many start locations and many end locations. Enter the postcodes, addresses or lat/longs in the start and end locations fields, separated by new lines and the travel distances and times will be calculated below. The results are tab separated and can be pasted directly into Excel.

Due to a massive increase in Google Maps costs, this page must be used with your own Google Maps API key, except for 'as the crow flies' measurements. Sorry.

Press 'Get started'

Choose Routes and Places when selecting products during the setup process

Then create a project

Then enable billing. Google now require billing to be enabled on your account, so beware of how much you'll be charged.

Google should then create an API key for you. That is what you need to enter in the field above

You should see a button saying 'Secure credentials'. Click this

Under 'Application restrictions', select 'HTTP referrers (websites)'

In the field that appears, type https://www.doogal.co.uk and press 'Save'

Once that's done, you should be able to use your API key above

If you already have an API key, ensure the following APIs are enabled in your project

Google Maps Geocoding
Google Maps JavaScript
Google Maps Directions
Google Maps Distance Matrix

If after setting up your key you're having problems getting things working, in Google Chrome go to the three dots top right, then select More Tools/Developer Tools. Go to the Console tab and look for any errors mentioning the Google Maps API. That may give you a clue as to what the problem is. Other browsers have similar functionality that will be accessed in a similar manner
